2026 PublisherThe House That Lee Built
Lee Maniscalco has worked tirelessly throughout his 40-year career in medical publishing to deliver a winning blend of remarkable editorial content and clear, compelling advertising to national audiences of healthcare professionals. Together, the two elements have a shared mission: to educate, enlighten and inform clinical decision making in order to improve patient care. Every step of the way, Lee has sought to ensure that the medical advertising dollar is well invested in trusted, respected, market-leading publications, achieving meaningful reach and optimal impact.
Lee’s story is one of Transformation … Innovation … and Collaboration, an enduring fabric stitched together with the golden thread of Communication. As a leader of two top publishing companies—Thomson Medical Economics (1980s and 1990s) and Haymarket Media (2001-2025), he has constantly built bridges and forged partnerships to connect the publishing, advertising and pharmaceutical communities in common cause.
In both places, he has guided award-winning print and digital magazines reaching the full spectrum of the health professions. He has reimagined the traditional publication model by initiating an impressive array of industry-leading live events, conferences, and awards programs, notably the MM+M Awards, the medical marketing industry’s premier awards program, now entering its 23rd year. It’s just one way in which Lee seeks to honor and build upon the incomparable legacy of his friend David Gideon—owner and publisher of MM+M, and co-founder and long-time Executive Director of the Medical Advertising Hall of Fame. Collectively, the new channels of communication Lee championed provide a vibrant forum for sharing knowledge, championing best practices, and showcasing the leaders in advertising, marketing, editorial, and technology.
Over the past quarter century, as CEO of Haymarket Medical (2001-2010) and Chairman and CEO of Haymarket Media (2010-2025), Lee has led the company’s transformation from legacy print to a digital and data-centric enterprise. As one who began his career as a systems programmer and computer analyst, Lee early on had the insight—and foresight—to see the digital revolution coming and to capitalize on its promise. His vision sparked the creation of a medical information network reaching more than 2 million healthcare professionals and a family of authoritative digital platforms serving more than 20 clinical specialties. He developed market-leading, award-winning centers of excellence in continuing medical education (Haymarket Medical Education/myCME) and customized communications (PRI Healthcare Solutions, a medical promotional agency).
The House that Lee Built at Haymarket is an impressive edifice by any measure. He took a fledgling publishing business and turned it into a media and information powerhouse. Thanks to Lee’s savvy combination of organic development, strategic acquisition and smart management, a company that had 30 employees at the turn of the 21st century today has 30 brands—and more than 400 people on staff in New York, New Jersey, Florida and Illinois. The US business is now the largest operating division of the global, privately held Haymarket Group, founded in 1957 by Lord Michael Heseltine and headquartered in London.
Lee will be the first to tell you that an organization’s most valuable asset is its people. To that end, he’s invested a generous amount of his time, thought, and effort in establishing a welcoming, inclusive, energizing workplace that values imaginative thinking and collaborative endeavor. The environment empowers talented people to do their best work and fosters excellence through ongoing learning and continuous improvement.
A core part of Lee’s legacy is a strong, abiding commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and a firm dedication to corporate social responsibility—locally, nationally and globally. Along the way, he has nurtured a company-wide mindset of giving back to the community through a wide variety of volunteer and charitable initiatives—and he has led that effort through his own example of personal philanthropy.
In his new capacity as non-executive Board member and strategic advisor for Haymarket, Lee will continue to be a passionate ambassador for the industry. His countless contributions to fostering mutual understanding and cooperation among all stakeholders, and the imagination and enthusiasm he brings to every conversation and every challenge, make him a most worthy addition to the Medical Advertising Hall of Fame. He is a proven leader who cares deeply about the people he works with and the greater good that he serves.
Lee and his wife Christie live in Haworth, NJ, and are the proud parents of two daughters pursuing careers in medical communications and marketing strategy. Gabrielle worked as an Account Director for Ogilvy Health and FCB Health and is now Senior Product Manager for Consumer Marketing with Axsome Therapeutics. A Future Famer in 2020, she delivered the address on behalf of that stellar group at the MAHF dinner. Sam is a Marketing Director at Haymarket Media, leading the strategic planning and execution of integrated marketing initiatives across the Medical Communications Group, McKnight’s portfolio of brands, and the National Association for Continuing Education. She drives multi-channel marketing campaigns that align with business objectives, optimizing performance and ensuring consistent, high-impact execution.
