Ed Wise

2026 Agency Creative

Over more than four decades in medical advertising and healthcare communications, Ed Wise has exemplified what it means to lead—creatively, strategically, and humanely. Never a follower, yet followed by many, Ed’s career is defined by vision, courage, and an unwavering belief in the power of ideas to change lives. From building iconic brands to shaping the world’s largest healthcare communications network, his influence has been profound, enduring, and deeply personal.

Ed began his professional journey in 1981, entering an industry still finding its footing creatively. A writer at heart—shaped by his studies in English at Bucknell University—he brought to medical advertising a rare respect for language, storytelling, and emotional truth. Early in his career, Ed recognized an opportunity not simply to communicate medical information, but to elevate the craft itself. That conviction would guide everything that followed.

His creative breakthrough came at Cline, Davis & Mann, where Ed was the agency’s first copywriter and one of its earliest employees. As a writer, and later as Creative Director, he helped transform CDM into a creative powerhouse—setting new standards for what healthcare advertising could achieve. That transformation was crystallized through landmark work, most notably the launch of Viagra. Rather than allowing the brand to be defined by humor or discomfort, Ed and his team reframed erectile dysfunction as a serious, treatable medical condition affecting millions of men. The resulting “Courage” campaign, featuring Bob Dole, helped change public conversation, empowered patients, and contributed to the brand’s rise as a billion-dollar global franchise. For Ed, it was a defining moment: proof that creativity, when guided by empathy and purpose, could truly improve lives.

As his career progressed, Ed’s leadership expanded beyond creative excellence into organizational vision. Recognizing the growing complexity and specialization of healthcare communications, he set out to build something unprecedented: a collaborative network of best-in-class agencies designed to thrive together. That vision led to the creation of what would become Omnicom Health Group. Through thoughtful growth, strategic spinoffs, and acquisitions, Ed assembled a “Best of Health” ecosystem—independent in spirit, yet deeply connected in purpose.

Under his leadership, the network grew to include more than 18 agency brands and over 4,500 employees worldwide, generating more than $1.4 billion in annual revenue. But Ed never measured success in dollars alone. His true metric was talent. Often referred to as “The Talent Collector,” he believed his most important role was to identify exceptional people, create opportunities for them to grow, and then trust them to lead. The result was an uncommon culture of loyalty and longevity, with many agency leaders spending decades under his mentorship—and many others going on to found successful agencies of their own.

Ed’s impact extended well beyond business growth. A passionate advocate for creativity in healthcare, he was an early supporter of the Cannes Lions Health Festival, encouraging his agencies to compete on the world’s biggest creative stage. Under his leadership, the CDM Group was named 2015 Healthcare Network of the Year, affirming his belief that healthcare work could stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best creative work in any category.

Equally important to Ed was service. He believed success carried responsibility, and he used his platform to give back in meaningful ways. That spirit led to the creation of Pharmapalooza—a healthcare advertising “battle of the bands” that combined Ed’s love of music with philanthropy. What began as a bold idea grew into a must-attend industry event, ultimately raising more than $1 million for the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore to support underserved communities in the Bronx. Ed also served for many years on the American Heart Association’s New York City Board, helping advance heart-health awareness and fundraising efforts across the city.

Education and mentorship have been constant threads throughout Ed’s life. For a decade, he taught leadership at Bucknell University, inspiring students to pursue careers in healthcare communications. He also lectured at Wharton’s Executive MBA program, sharing hard-earned insights on pitching ideas within large organizations—experience that would later inform his bestselling book, The Total Pitch. Published in 2023, the book distilled decades of leadership, communication, and new-business experience into a practical, repeatable framework that has since influenced leaders well beyond the advertising world.

After “graduating” from Omnicom Health Group, Ed entered a new chapter—one no less impactful. As a certified executive coach, board member, and trusted advisor, he now helps leaders navigate the transition from individual success to organizational leadership. By his own description, he has become “a CEO’s CEO,” applying timeless leadership principles across industries.

At the center of Ed Wise’s life—professional and personal—is family. His leadership style, marked by loyalty, care, accountability, and growth, mirrors the values he shares with his wife Kaye, their children, and an expanding family that reflects the same sense of connection he fostered throughout his career.

Ed Wise’s legacy is not simply one of achievement, but of example. He has shown that leadership grounded in creativity, integrity, and humanity can elevate an industry, inspire generations, and leave a lasting mark on health and medicine. His career stands as a true testament to a life well led.
